WTVP Mission:
To enrich our community in engaging and relevant ways using public media and outreach efforts.
In a media environment cluttered with competing voices, one local organization stands above the rest: WTVP. Since 1971, WTVP has been a teacher, reporter, historian, musician, performer, and friend to thousands in Central Illinois who believe modern media should aspire to more than commercial gain. It should educate, engage, entertain, and inspire, while enhancing and strengthening the communities it serves.
WTVP is a community-licensed public television station providing PBS and local programming and outreach services that bring the people of Central Illinois together.
A legacy of education and service
WTVP brings drama, art, history, science, and music to more than 380,000 in 20 counties in Central Illinois. Quality programming on WTVP expands the minds of children, opens up new worlds, keeps citizens informed on world events and exposes Central Illinois to new cultures and ideas.
WTVP has earned a solid reputation for locally produced documentaries, performances, and public affairs and business programming. On WTVP, local history comes to life, musical and artistic talent takes center stage, and important civic and business issues are explored like no other media outlet. The station’s noncommercial business model emphasizes community interests and local programming reflects that priority.
WTVP is an essential part of the community. Giving back is an integral part of who we are and why we exist. The members and staff of WTVP demonstrate their commitment to the region through consistently outstanding national programming, award-winning local productions and community outreach.
